You step out of the Métro at Abbesses, and Paris just lands on you. The smell of warm croissants from the boulangerie two doors down, the sound of French being spoken too fast for you to catch, the pale morning light hitting the cobblestones at an angle that makes even a parked bicycle look like a painting. You haven't even seen the Eiffel Tower yet, and you're already thinking: why did I wait so long?
That's Paris for you. It doesn't try to impress you. It just does.
Paris Travel Guide for Indian Tourists 2026: What You Actually Get
Let's be honest about something. Paris has a reputation for being expensive, aloof, and slightly intimidating for first-timers. For Indian travellers especially, there's the visa stress, the language worry, the "will the food suit me?" question, and the fear of overpaying for something that could have been planned better.
Here's the reality after helping thousands of Indian travellers plan their European trips: Paris rewards the traveller who does a little homework. It is not a "just land and figure it out" city. But when it's planned well, it's one of the most satisfying destinations an Indian traveller can visit, whether you're a honeymooner, a family with teenagers, or someone finally treating themselves to that solo Europe trip they've been dreaming about for a decade.
Paris in 2026 has some specific things going for you. The post-Olympics infrastructure is still shiny, the RER and Métro have been upgraded, and several new boutique neighbourhoods (hello, Canal Saint-Martin) have opened up to a more interesting kind of tourism. This isn't just Eiffel Tower selfies territory anymore.
Our France Cultural Tour Packages have evolved over the years to reflect exactly this shift, mixing the iconic with the genuinely local.
Best Time to Visit (Month-by-Month, Honest)
April to June is the sweet spot. The city is in full bloom, temperatures sit between 15°C and 22°C, and the long evening light means you're getting extra hours to explore. This is Paris at its most photogenic and most alive.
July and August are peak tourist months. Crowds at major sights are real, hotel prices spike, and many Parisians actually leave the city for vacation. If this is your only window, go early in the morning to popular spots and plan around it. It's still a great trip, just a busier one.
September and October are quietly brilliant. The summer crowds thin out, the light turns golden, fashion week brings energy to the city in September, and you get comfortable walking weather. This is the month we recommend most often for Indian travellers flying from Delhi or Mumbai.
November to February is cold (2°C to 8°C), but Paris in winter has its own charm. Christmas markets, far fewer tourists, cozy cafés you'll want to sit in for two hours, and significantly lower flight and hotel prices. If you don't mind the cold (pack well), this can be surprisingly good value.
March is transitional. Some days are lovely, others are grey. Book March only if your dates are locked.
Top Experiences You Can't Miss
The Eiffel Tower, Done Properly
Yes, you have to go. But how you go matters. Skip the daytime queue and book the evening summit slot instead. Watching Paris light up from 276 metres as the sun sets is something no photograph prepares you for. Book online well in advance, especially for 2026 summer slots.
Versailles on a Weekday
The Palace of Versailles is 40 minutes from Paris by RER C and it is absolutely worth a full day. Go on a Tuesday or Wednesday, arrive before 9:30 AM, and spend time in the gardens, not just the palace. The gardens are free to walk in outside of fountain show days. This is the kind of place where scale alone tells you something about history.
Le Marais for Walking and Eating
Le Marais is the neighbourhood that best represents modern Paris: medieval architecture, excellent falafel from L'As du Fallafel (the queue is worth it), art galleries, and the best vintage shopping in the city. It's easy to spend four hours here without trying.
A Day Trip to Loire Valley or Mont Saint-Michel
If you have six or more nights, one day trip outside Paris is worth it. The Loire Valley's châteaux are two hours away and feel like stepping into a different century. Mont Saint-Michel is further (three to four hours by train) but is genuinely one of the most striking places in all of Europe. We include both options in our longer Paris itineraries.
Montmartre, Before 9 AM
Montmartre is touristy. That's true. But walk up to Sacré-Coeur before 9 AM and you'll find local vendors setting up, almost no tourists, and views over Paris that are hard to beat. The same neighbourhood that feels crowded by 11 AM is completely different at 8.
Food You'll Actually Love
Indian travellers often worry about vegetarian options in France. Paris in 2026 is actually one of the easier European cities for this. The city has excellent Lebanese, Middle Eastern, and vegetarian restaurants. Rue des Rosiers in Le Marais is Jewish food central. And for those who eat everything, the French onion soup, steak frites, and crêpes au beurre are not to be missed.

Getting There: Flights from India
Most Indian travellers fly into Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), the main international airport. Orly (ORY) handles some European connections but CDG is where you'll arrive from India.
From Mumbai: Air France, IndiGo (codeshare), and Air India all operate direct or one-stop flights. Direct flight time is roughly 9 to 9.5 hours. Expect return airfare in the range of INR 65,000 to INR 1,10,000 per person, depending on how early you book.
From Delhi: Similar options, with Air France and Air India being the most direct. Delhi to Paris CDG direct is about 8.5 hours.
From other cities: Most travellers from Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, or Kolkata will connect through Mumbai, Delhi, or a hub like Dubai or Doha. Qatar Airways and Emirates both have excellent Paris connections with short layovers.
Booking tip: Paris flights for peak summer (June to August) sell out and spike in price by January. If you're planning a 2026 summer trip, book flights by November or December 2025. For April-June travel, January bookings usually get you the best fares.
Visa, Vaccinations & Practical Prep
Schengen Visa
France falls under the Schengen zone, so you'll need a Schengen visa. Indian passport holders cannot enter visa-free. Apply through the French Consulate or VFS Global (France), and apply at least 45 to 60 days before travel. You'll need proof of hotel bookings, travel insurance, bank statements (generally showing 3 to 4 months of statements), and your flight itinerary.
Schengen visa fee is approximately EUR 90 (around INR 8,000 to 8,500), plus VFS service charges.
ETIAS (Important for 2026)
The EU is rolling out its ETIAS travel authorisation system for Schengen countries. By 2026, Indian travellers may need to apply for ETIAS in addition to the standard Schengen visa. This is a separate online process. We'll keep our clients updated on exact timelines as the rollout progresses, but factor this into your pre-travel checklist.
Travel Insurance
Mandatory for the Schengen visa application, and genuinely useful in France. Get a policy that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellation, and baggage loss. Minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 is required for the visa.
Vaccinations
No specific vaccinations are required for France from India. Standard travel health advice applies: make sure your routine vaccinations (hepatitis A, typhoid) are current. No malaria risk in France.
Currency and Cards
France uses the Euro. Most places in Paris accept international Visa/Mastercard, including smaller cafés. Carry some cash for markets, smaller bistros, and tips. Airport exchange rates are terrible; use a forex card or withdraw from an ATM in the city.
SIM Cards
Buy a local French SIM or a European data SIM at CDG airport or at any Fnac/Carrefour in the city. Data is very affordable. Alternatively, your Indian carrier's international roaming pack may work well for a short trip.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is Paris safe for Indian tourists?
Paris is generally very safe for tourists, including Indian travellers. Pickpocketing is the most common issue, especially on the Métro, at crowded tourist spots like the Eiffel Tower area, and around Sacré-Coeur. Keep your bag in front of you, don't leave your phone on café tables, and you'll be fine. The city has significantly increased visible security presence post-2024.
Q: How much does a trip to Paris cost for an Indian couple?
For a 7-night trip including flights, hotel, food, local transport, and experiences, a mid-range Indian couple should budget INR 3,00,000 to INR 4,00,000 in total. This covers comfortable 4-star accommodation, guided experiences, and a mix of eating out and grabbing quick meals. A budget-conscious trip is possible for less; a luxury honeymoon will naturally cost more.
Q: Can Indian vegetarians eat well in Paris?
Yes, much better than the reputation suggests. Paris has a strong Lebanese, falafel, and Middle Eastern food scene that is largely vegetarian-friendly. Italian restaurants are everywhere. The city also has a growing number of dedicated vegan and vegetarian restaurants. You won't starve, and you'll actually eat very well if you explore beyond traditional French restaurants.
Q: How many days in Paris is enough?
Five nights is the comfortable minimum to see the main highlights without feeling rushed. Seven nights lets you add Versailles and explore neighbourhoods properly. If you want to combine Paris with other parts of France, ten nights or more makes the most sense.
Q: Do I need to speak French to get around?
No. English is widely spoken in hotels, tourist areas, museums, and most restaurants. Some older shopkeepers or café owners in residential neighbourhoods may have limited English, but a smile and a "Bonjour" goes a long way. Learning five to ten French basics (merci, excusez-moi, l'addition s'il vous plaît for the bill) will genuinely warm people up to you.
Q: When should I apply for my Schengen visa?
Apply 45 to 60 days before your travel date. Don't apply too early (more than 90 days before travel), as this can cause issues. Gather all your documents carefully: confirmed hotel bookings, return flight tickets, travel insurance, bank statements, and income proof. A Safari Sutra visa assistance team can guide you through the exact checklist.
Q: Is Paris good for family travel with kids?
Absolutely. The Eiffel Tower, Versailles, the Louvre (pick the highlights, don't try to do everything), Disneyland Paris (30 minutes from central Paris by RER A), and Seine boat rides are all genuinely enjoyable for children. Paris also has excellent parks like Jardin du Luxembourg where kids can sail toy boats on the pond. The city is very walkable and stroller-friendly in most areas.
Plan Your Paris Travel Guide for Indian Tourists 2026 Trip with Safari Sutra
Paris is one of those cities where the difference between a good trip and a great one comes down almost entirely to planning quality. Knowing which queue to skip, which neighbourhood to stay in for easy Métro access, which restaurant to book two weeks in advance, and how to time your Versailles visit so you're not stuck in a slow-moving crowd for three hours: these details matter more than you'd think.
After 12 years and 15,000+ trips, the Safari Sutra Holidays team has found that the biggest difference between an average trip and a great one is guide quality and the small logistical decisions that don't seem important until they are. We get those right for every traveller, whether you're a couple on your honeymoon or a family of five doing their first Europe trip.
Our France Cultural Tour Packages are built around exactly this kind of detail, not just a list of sights but a properly sequenced, locally informed trip that respects your time and your budget.
Paris in 2026 is ready. The question is whether you are.
