France Untamed: Chamonix, the Pyrenees & Verdon Gorge

Most France trips end at a café table. This one starts on a cable wire bolted into a cliff face above Chamonix, with Mont Blanc filling the sky behind you. Eight nights take you from the Alps to the Pyrenees foothills to the turquoise cut of Verdon Gorge — three landscapes most Paris-focused itineraries never touch. In Chamonix, a via ferrata route and the Aiguille du Midi cable car put you above 3,800 metres without needing technical climbing experience. Annecy adds a gentler day of paddling on the lake before the route drops south to Verdon Gorge, where canyoning through the river's carved limestone and an optional paragliding flight over the gorge close out the physical side of the trip. Nice, on the coast, is the wind-down.
