4.9 (98 reviews)

You've seen tigers in Ranthambore and leopards in Kabini. Uganda is the planet's next chapter. In the mist-wrapped valleys of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, you spend a privileged hour face-to-face with a habituated gorilla family — close enough to hear them breathe. Beyond the gorillas, Uganda stacks up: chimpanzees in Kibale, tree-climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth, and the headwaters of the Nile at Jinja. A Uganda gorilla safari package from India is not a bucket list trip — it is a complete rewiring of how you see the natural world.

Trip Details

The trek begins before sunrise. Your boots are already caked with red mud when the guide raises a fist — stop. Fifteen metres ahead, half-hidden in giant heliconia leaves, a juvenile gorilla rolls onto its back, legs in the air, entirely unbothered by your presence. Behind it, a silverback — 200 kilograms of quiet authority — shifts his gaze from the forest canopy to you. He holds it for three long seconds. In that moment, every flight connection, every early morning, and every aching quad is paid in full. This is Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This is Uganda.

Uganda is the only country in the world where you can track both mountain gorillas and chimpanzees in their natural habitat within the same trip. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the south-west, shelters roughly half of the world's remaining mountain gorilla population — estimated at just over 1,000 individuals (📝 confirm current figure with Uganda Wildlife Authority before publishing). To the north, Kibale Forest is the primate capital of Africa, home to over 1,500 chimpanzees and 12 other primate species. Queen Elizabeth National Park adds the rare spectacle of lions draped across the branches of ancient fig trees — a behaviour found almost nowhere else on Earth. Uganda's equatorial climate keeps the landscape perpetually green, and unlike Kenya or Tanzania, you will rarely share a gorilla trek with more than seven other visitors.

Safari Sutra plans Uganda itineraries with a distinct lens: we sequence your trekking days to use your peak physical energy for Bwindi, where trails can be steep and dense, and position the chimp tracking and savannah drives in the days before or after. We work exclusively with lodges positioned within or adjacent to the national parks — not an hour's drive away — so your mornings begin at the forest edge, not in a transit vehicle. For Indian travellers, we pre-arrange vegetarian-friendly meal options at lodges and ensure your dietary preferences are confirmed before arrival. Our naturalist briefings the evening before each trek ensure you know exactly what to expect — including the honest truth that gorilla trekking is physically demanding and deeply worth it.

The ideal window for a Uganda gorilla safari from India is June to September, when the dry season firms up the forest trails and makes gorilla trekking more accessible. December to February offers a shorter dry window with fewer international visitors. A minimum of 7 nights is recommended to cover Bwindi and at least one other park — 10 nights allows you to add Kibale and Jinja without rushing. This is a journey suited to couples looking for something beyond a beach holiday, solo wildlife photographers who want concentrated time in the forest, and adventure-minded families with older teenagers. Travellers from Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Pune flying via Nairobi or Addis Ababa reach Entebbe in approximately 10–13 hours. If you've been putting Uganda off for "someday," someday is running out of permits.

Why Safari Sutra

For Uganda, Safari Sutra makes two decisions that most agencies don't: we place you in lodges inside or at the boundary of the national park — not in a town 30 km away — so you wake to the sounds of the forest rather than a generator, and your morning trek doesn't start with a long transfer that eats your energy before the trail begins. We also sequence your trekking permits carefully: gorilla trekking goes on Day 2 or 3, once you've acclimatised to the altitude and the forest pace, not on Day 1 when you're jet-lagged and unfamiliar with your boots. For Indian travellers, we confirm vegetarian meal arrangements at every lodge in writing before your arrival — because "we'll manage something" is not a plan when you're 7 hours from the nearest Indian restaurant. ════ END OF UGANDA DESTINATION CMS PAGE ════ Document prepared by Safari Sutra Content System | Version 1.0 | Ready for editor review and CMS upload 📝 Remind web team: All prices, permit costs, visa fees, and vaccination requirements must be verified against current Uganda Wildlife Authority, embassy, and Ministry of Health advisories before the page is published.

I think if you want to have a hassle free Trip then mr. Sukhendu Reddy is the man for you. We, family of 3 went to Singapore and Malaysia through his agency. Everything was so meticulously planned , the timings amazed us a lot. It was perfect. The vehicles provided, the city tours and the guides were all good at what they assigned to. And the most surprising was Mr. Sukhendu's patience. He would attend to our calls any time of the day , though the timings differed by 2 and a half hours . I think that is an important quality of a travel agent. Go for it guys. You will love it.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Uganda

Common questions travelers ask about Uganda — if you need more help, contact us.

The dry seasons — June to September and December to February — are the most recommended windows for gorilla trekking, as trails in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest are firmer and visibility is cleaner. June to September is the longer and more popular window, so gorilla trekking permits sell out months in advance. If you're planning to travel from Mumbai, Bangalore, or Hyderabad, we strongly recommend booking your permits and flights at least 4–6 months ahead, particularly for the June–August peak.
