From the incense haze of Hoan Kiem Lake to the tailors of Hoi An — seven nights of living Vietnamese history

In Hanoi's Old Quarter, every street still sells the same thing it sold a century ago — one lane for tin merchants, another for paper, another for silk. That specificity, that refusal to blur into modern convenience, is what makes Vietnam unlike anywhere else in Southeast Asia. This 7-night journey moves north to south through Vietnam's three historical and cultural heartlands. You begin in Hanoi — the political and philosophical capital — where the Temple of Literature, Hoan Kiem Lake and the French Quarter layer their stories on top of each other. A scenic train ride brings you to Hue, the imperial city where the Nguyen emperors built palaces and royal tombs along the Perfume River. Hoi An follows, perhaps Vietnam's most photographed town, where Japanese merchant houses, French colonial facades and Chinese assembly halls share the same narrow street. The journey closes in Ho Chi Minh City — fast-moving, motorbike-loud, relentlessly forward-looking — with a half-day at the Cu Chi Tunnels to understand what the city once lived through. Safari Sutra sequences this north-to-south routing deliberately: you travel with Vietnam's story, not against it. Hotels are chosen within walking distance of the heritage core in each city, so your evenings belong to you — no transfers back from remote locations. Indian vegetarian meal preferences are confirmed in advance with all partner restaurants. This trip is best for couples, solo travellers and friend groups who want cultural depth over beach days, and who prefer exploring a country through its streets and stories rather than its resorts. Seven nights is enough to feel Vietnam's pace — but not enough to exhaust it. That gap is the best reason to return.
