White salt flats of Rann of Kutch at golden hour — Gujarat tour packages from Mumbai | Safari Sutra

Gujarat does not announce itself — it reveals itself slowly. Your first morning on the Rann, when the salt crust glints pink before sunrise and the horizon disappears entirely, is when you understand what all those photos couldn't capture. Add to that the world's only wild Asiatic lion population in Gir, intricately mirrored embroidery from Kutch villages, the devotional weight of Dwarka on the Gujarat coast, and food that will have you asking for the recipe at every stop. A Gujarat tour package from Mumbai is a four-hour drive into a state that has been quietly extraordinary for centuries.

Trip Details

Gujarat holds the last Asiatic lions on earth, a salt desert the size of a small country, and a craft tradition that has survived centuries of trade routes.

It is 4:30am at the edge of the Great Rann of Kutch and your guide is handing you cutting chai in the dark. By the time the thermos empties, the sky has turned a violet no Instagram filter can replicate, and the salt flat ahead — 7,500 square kilometres of it — catches the first sliver of light like a mirror laid flat across the earth. No hills, no trees, no sounds except wind and the creak of a camel somewhere behind the camp. This is why people come back to Gujarat a second time before they have even unpacked from the first.

Gujarat is the only state in the world where you can track Asiatic lions in the morning and watch master artisans stitch Rogan art — a 400-year-old craft using only castor oil and natural pigments — in the afternoon. Gir National Park is not the Serengeti; the terrain is dry teak forest, the sightings are earned, and when a lion crosses a forest track ten metres ahead of your jeep, the stillness is total. Beyond wildlife, Gujarat rewards those who slow down: the 11th-century step-well of Rani ki Vav in Patan (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) descends seven storeys into the earth and is decorated with over 500 sculptures. The Saurashtra coastline holds Somnath, one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples, and Dwarka, where the Arabian Sea crashes against the walls of a city that devotees believe Krishna once ruled. Gujarat's thali — dal, bajra rotla, kadhi, and a dozen small katoris of vegetable preparations — is the most comprehensive argument for vegetarian cooking you will find anywhere in India.

Safari Sutra designs Gujarat itineraries that connect these worlds without turning the trip into a logistics exercise. We sequence the Rann visit to coincide with the Purnima (full moon) nights of Rann Utsav when the salt flat glows white under moonlight — an experience available only during specific dates from November to February. Our Gir safari partners work exclusively with naturalist guides who know individual lions by territory and behaviour, not just by sighting logs. For families and groups with strong food preferences, we confirm Indian vegetarian meals at every property — Gujarat is one of the most vegetarian-friendly destinations in the country, but we do not leave meal planning to chance. Stays are chosen for proximity to key sites, not just star ratings.

The best time to travel is November to February — Rann Utsav runs through this window, Gir is open for safaris (the park closes during monsoon), and the coast is warm enough for Dwarka and Somnath without the summer heat. Travellers from Mumbai and Pune have easy access via the Ahmedabad–Mumbai train corridor or direct flights into Ahmedabad. Those planning a Gujarat tour package from Bangalore or Hyderabad will find Ahmedabad well connected by air. The circuit typically runs Ahmedabad–Modhera–Patan–Bhuj–Rann of Kutch–Gir–Somnath–Dwarka over nine to ten nights — a pace that allows you to actually be somewhere, rather than just pass through it. If your group wants fewer days, we can build a tighter Kutch-only or Saurashtra-only version. Call us when you are ready to start planning.

Why Safari Sutra

Most Gujarat packages are built around the Rann of Kutch in isolation — a single spectacular stop dropped into a generic itinerary. Safari Sutra designs the full western circuit as a single narrative: you arrive in Ahmedabad and move through the state chronologically by culture, ecology, and history, ending at the sea in Dwarka having understood how this landscape shaped everything between it. Our Gir partners work with naturalist guides who track the same lion prides across seasons — not rotating staff who treat every safari as a tick-box. And because we know Indian families eat best when they eat on time, every hotel on our Gujarat list is confirmed for hot Indian breakfast and flexible meal timing before a single booking is made.

I think if you want to have a hassle free Trip then mr. Sukhendu Reddy is the man for you. We, family of 3 went to Singapore and Malaysia through his agency. Everything was so meticulously planned , the timings amazed us a lot. It was perfect. The vehicles provided, the city tours and the guides were all good at what they assigned to. And the most surprising was Mr. Sukhendu's patience. He would attend to our calls any time of the day , though the timings differed by 2 and a half hours . I think that is an important quality of a travel agent. Go for it guys. You will love it.

Frequently Asked Questions about Gujarat

Common questions travelers ask about Gujarat — if you need more help, contact us.

November to February is the peak season for the Rann of Kutch, coinciding with the Rann Utsav festival run by Gujarat Tourism. The salt flat is accessible and the temperatures are comfortable during the day (15–25°C) with cool nights. Avoid the monsoon months (June to September) when parts of the Rann flood. Travellers from Mumbai or Pune can reach Bhuj by train or via Ahmedabad by air in under three hours.
